Please insert the correct cd-rom

I want to try the Evolution 1.30 mod.

I have just reinstalled Freelancer. (deleted everything, savegames etc.)

Then upgraded it with the FreelancerSDK-v1[1.3full

Then installed MOD manager again

Then installed the Evolutions1.30.zip

Now freelancer wont start. It says I need to insert the correct cd-rom and restart the application.

How do I solve this problem?

Never mind. I fixed it myself. I copied the exe from the CD and renamed it to freelancer.exe.

The game seems to work now. It loads the evo mod etc.

There is copy protection built into the game that prevents it running without the CD.

However, the Ubisoft version appears to NOT be recognised as a correct CD, when they have in fact legally bought and owned the game. I assume since you "copied" the exe file from the CD, that this is indeed what this gentlemen owns, and therefore completely acceptable. Ubisoft have licensed the game, and distribute it with a no-CD version apparently, which is why when Ubisoft owners Freelancer.exe are replaced with Microsoft Freelancer.exe files - they suddenly have CD rom issues.

If you visit our forums, in the Evolutions discussion forum we have a stickied thread regarding Ubisoft copies of Freelancer. In there we tell you how to change your own Exe version to the 1.30 version, so that you can play online with others

A related issue - is it possible, if you have a legitimate CD that's been scratched up some, to get it replaced without needing to go and buy another copy of the game?
