Problem w/ video hardware

I uninstalled and then reinstalled hardware and now I get CTDs when logging on to servers I believe because it says it dosen't recognize my video/graphics card, I unfourtanately told the error mssg not to return so I can't give the full message, anyways FL is completely kaput. I tried the EOA hardware updater but it still didn't work. I did not have any problems with this before I uninstalled, even the times I reinstalled. Can anyone help me?

You may have to edit your card in manually. Try this thread.

I get lost in that.

Right-click My Computer on the desktop or in the Start Menu. Hit Properties, Hardware, Device Manager.

Display adapter, expand, click the first one if there's two (My Radeon 9600 has the "secondary adapter" listed separately), right-click after it turns blue, Properties, Details, Device Instance Id. Write down the stuff you see, then type it in here and we'll go from there.

The above all assumes you're using Windows XP.

I have an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200, I believ 0322 is the 4-number they were talking about.

Ok, so what you do is pull up that config file, flconfigdatabase.txt, and in your case, you do a Find on "Geforce". This is the relevant section:

///////////////////////////////////////////////////
//
// NVIDIA
//
//////////////////////////////////////////////////

Vendor = 0x10b4 "nVidia"
Vendor = 0x12d2 "nVidia"
Vendor = 0x10de "nVidia"

0x1b1d = "Riva 128"
0x0008 = "NV 1"
0x0009 = "NV 1"
0x0010 = "NV 2"
0x0018 = "Riva 128"
0x0019 = "Riva 128 ZX"
UnsupportedHardware
break

0x0020 = "TNT"
0x002c = "TNT Vanta"
0x002e = "TNT Vanta"
0x002f = "TNT Vanta"

0x00a0 = "TNT2 Aladdin"
0x0028 = "TNT2"
0x0029 = "TNT2 Ultra"
0x002a = "TNT2"
0x002b = "TNT2"
0x002d = "TNT2 M64"

0x0100 = "GeForce 256"
0x0101 = "GeForce 256 DDR"
0x0102 = "GeForce 256 Ultra"
0x0103 = "GeForce 256 Quadro"
0x0110 = "GeForce2 MX"
0x0111 = "GeForce2 MX DDR"
0x0112 = "GeForce2 Go"
0x0113 = "GeForce2 Quadro"
0x01a0 = "GeForce2 Crush11"
0x0150 = "GeForce2"
0x0151 = "GeForce2 Ti"
0x0152 = "GeForce2 Ultra"
0x0153 = "GeForce2 Quadro"
0x0170 = "GeForce4 MX 460"
0x0171 = "GeForce4 MX 440"
0x0172 = "GeForce4 MX 420"
0x0173 = "GeForce4 MX"
0x0174 = "GeForce4 Go 440"
0x0175 = "GeForce4 Go 420"
0x0176 = "GeForce4 Go 420"
0x0178 = "GeForce4 Quadro4"
0x0179 = "GeForce4 Go 440"
0x017a = "GeForce4 Quadro"
0x017b = "GeForce4 Quadro"
0x017b = "GeForce4 Quadro"
0x0200 = "GeForce3"
0x0201 = "GeForce3 Ti200"
0x0202 = "GeForce3 Ti500"
0x0203 = "GeForce3 Quadro"
0x0250 = "GeForce4 Ti4600"
0x0251 = "GeForce4 Ti4400"
0x0253 = "GeForce4 Ti4200"
0x0258 = "GeForce4 Quadro"
0x0259 = "GeForce4 Quadro"
0x025b = "GeForce4 Quadro"
0x02a0 = "GeForce3 XBOX"

I recommend you insert, after the Geforce4 Quadro line, this:

0x0322 = "GeForceFX 5200"

So it will look like this:

0x025b = "GeForce4 Quadro"
0x0322 = "GeForceFX 5200"
0x02a0 = "GeForce3 XBOX"

----

Save the file, and then run Freelancer again and see if that helps.

Ok, I've done it and I still get CTD on liftoff, so either my prob is unrelated (Mod, etc) or it didn't work with the INI. Thanks anyway though.

To truly test deactivate mods, restore back us and then try it. I say this as you seem to indicate the prescence of mods, which can also cause it to crash to desk top.

Last resort: Put your Freelancer CD in, go to Add/Remove Programs, hit Freelancer, change/remove, Click "Reinstall Freelancer", and it'll overwrite all your files.

Then go snag the FL 1.1 patch off Microsoft's site (not strictly necessary for client-side, but might cure one or two server incompatibilities), and then edit the freelancer config file like we outlined above, and THEN put your mod, and only your mod, on.
