Internet Problems with Freelancer

Hello, My general comp specs are as follows:

AMD 64 3100
512 Ram
Geforce 6800
Windows XP Professional

The program launches and all, it even connects to the global server, and i can log into a server, but its their that i encounter issues. Once i log on, and venture into space i get the internet lost conncection error blinking. However I have comcast Cable, so i shouldnt be experiancing this problem on a server with a low ping. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this.

Do you have any mods whatsoever running? Also check to see that the server your playing on is the same version as your game. There are quite a few servers our there that run different versions of the game. Let me know if this is not the right answer.

I running on the same version servers, and running no mods. yet it still does the lost internet connection thing and after a min or two dumps me out of the server.

Are you behind any firewalls or routers?

Post Tue Apr 26, 2005 2:06 pm

No firewalls but i am behind a router, how would i check to see if thats the problem, its lynksys. I think its spelled that way.

That might explain your problem. Let me do some checking to see what ports are needed to play Freelancer.

I got the information I need. Now first off, do you know how to open ports?

Most likely not.

Actually, do you have a microphone? That would make things easier. If not, I'll write some instructions.

my friend could help me out with the ports prob, which ones i need to open?

Post Tue Apr 26, 2005 2:25 pm

DANG IT, a microphone would be alot easier. Unfortunately I don't have AOL, I use MSN. I guess I'll have to type it out.

Okay, here is goes:

Step 1:
Open up a web browser either IE or Firefox.

Step 2:
Highlight the address and type this in instead:

http://192.168.1.1/

Type in your password.

Step 3:
Once you see the main screen for the router, click on the tab that says forwarding. Let me know when you've done that.

Blast!!! Okay, let me double check my info again, might have missed a port.

Okay, I double-checked my information and it should work. CRAP!!! I just remembered something. Have you installed the Freelancer patch 1.1? That may solve the problem.
