please help---installing problems

Hey,

I am having problems installing Freelancer. When ive reached about 47% it says a file cannot be copied because I might not have enough disk space or the file is in use. I have plenty of space left and i dont know what the problem is.

Please help me.

Defragment your drive. You need about a gigabit of area, also, you still need your virtual area for the memory deal. Which OS are you running, and what is your drive size/space available?

OS = Operating system aka 98, 2000, XP. If a hard drive is heavily fragmented, it will interfere with installing a game.

My OS is windows XP, i defraged my computer and my disk drive but its still coming up with this...

'Freelancer Setup encountered a disk error while writing to the file C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\data\base...\br_02_cambridge_cityscape.cmp.
Make sure your hard disk is not full, and that the file is not in use.'

Thanks FInalday

One thing, open My Computer and the C: drive and find the microsoft folder. Delete the Freelamcer folder and empty the trash and try again to install. If you get the same error, you disk may have a smudge or scratch on it.

If the freelancer disk is damaged, the only recourse is to replace it. Sorry.

Post if you get it to install.

I can't help with your problem, but perhaps I can help you getting a more meaningful error message.

Start Windows Explorer and open you CD. You will find a large file with the name cab2.cab. This is a compressed file containing the game files.

Doubleclick on cab2.cab and you can see the contents. Find the file which is causing the error (br_02_cambridge_cityscape.cmp) and drag it to a folder on your hard drive. If there is a problem reading the CD, I assume you will be told so.
