Cannot join my own server

Hi all,

I have looked on this forum and cannot find the answer to my problem. I do not have a router, I have norton firewall and allowed access for Freelancer and directplay server. When I create my own server and try to join it (on the same computer) I cannot, it just says "operation is taking longer than expected" then times out. I have tried changes the port numbers used (which works for Halo), turning off my firewall but nothing works. also I don't have windows firewall enabled. Help please.

Thanks for the reply but I run dedicated servers whilst playing on them at the same time for much more demanding games than Freelancer, I don't believe this is the problem. The readme states the client can join their server on the same machine and slow down maybe the result, I can't even join my own server.

Something I have noticed since my first post is when my server is listed on the server browser ingame the ip address for it is a cdkey of some kind, maybe my player id number but it's not an ip address like all the other servers, this maybe the reason? how do I change it?

I have checked the server forum and the guide for creating a server recommends installing some admin programs but doesn;t give any links to these programs, any ideas what he's talking about?

For the record my machine is a 2.6 amd xp, x800xt plat edition, 1024 meg ram, 1meg dsl connection OS is xp obviously.

I'm greatful for any help!

This is sounding strangely familiar to what Funkmaster has posted here. I wonder what is going on? Like I asked Funkmaster, can you send us a picture to see what you see?
