Multiplayer with no lan or internet

I do that all the time with XPpro to test changes in the MOD I am working on so I know it can be done.

Maybe with some more info we can trouble shoot this with you.

What error message do you get?
Do you have XP home networking setup to run TCP/IP? If you can get the server to run without TCP/IP running your still not going to have any way to connect to the server.

Some more bug info:
-the server dose not apear on the list
-i have internet with modem but i didnt used it from like 5 months, thats why i play offline, these messages that im writing are from a friend, because he has internet cable,(verry fast),but a 100mhz computer but this is unimportant info.
...these are the only things i know...

can you help??

It's possible you have a firewall up and running, blocking FL server's need of an INCOMING port which has to remain open. Although if you have WinXP's firewall running it should open that port automatically because it has uPnP.

To verify the issue is on your server end, test out the client-side of FL. Connect up your Internet (yes, even through your modem) and log into the FL global list server. You see the list? Then the client-side is probably fine.

You can play on a 56k modem. It is hard to dogfight or be in an environment with many moving items (like debris, abondoned cargo, NPC's, etc.) as they significantly add to data transferred between client and server. Yet you should still be able to play on an original, unmodified server.

thxxx, I dont have internet.... but i have modem...and thats not the problem...
you mean i need to connect first on internet to be able to play offline??

Post Tue Jan 04, 2005 6:24 am

No, I didn't suggest you must be connected to the Internet to play offline. I DO think you have to have TCP/IP installed.

I was suggesting that even though you think it's slow to play through the modem on other servers (beside your own) try it. You may find you can play through a modem on a low ping server. Certainly there is enough server's out there dying for any participation from players including modem users.

You can play MP off line. You need a network card to do it though. I will pass this on to BP who knows the easyest way to set it up. Internet, or modem, not needed.

I also would like some help on this issue.

I have a network card, but my computer is not connected to a netork at the moment.
I can access the global list through the internet, so no problem there.
I can run the FL server, and it seems to load fine.
However, when I go into Freelancer, it cannot detect the server using the LAN option.
I have tried setting up the server on one user account, then switching to another to run Freelancer - no joy.

Is there any way to fool the computer into thinking the network is connected when it isn't, so that I can play MP?

BTW, I am running XP home, and I have loaded the 1.1 server patch.

Answered my own question.

A friend has gone wireless with his network, and gave me all his cards, cable and a network hub.

Connected my computer up to the hub, and XP immediately believed the network was active, even though there wasn't another computer connected.

Spent a few hours last night playing MP - problem solved.

Now all I need is to convince my wife we need broadband so I can play online againt real people.
