It shouldn't be, as I have it installed as well. I did disable the Windows Firewall. Uninstal all of Freelancer, then go to your hard drive/programs/Microsoftgames and delet that folder and then do a reinstall. That way, you eliminate any residual problems. *Note* Under the normal uninstall, it still leaves files on your computer.

Uninstall the game, then reinstall. I mean a full uninstall - all files/folders/save games/screenshots

Then reinstall fully.
Run stuff like Adaware, Spybot/virus scan etc - and then install the game.
Try again.

Its not SP2 - as one heck of alot of people have it, and they have no issue whatsoever!

When you said uninstall .. I understood uninstall everything so I did ... Still not working...
SP2 seems to be a problem .. please read other posts ... however it is incredible that Microsfts games dont run on Microsofts software... BTW please reply if you have real solution....

*sigh* I have had SP2 installed since it came out, and MY freelancer works.

So how can it be selective all of a sudden?? Since SP2 is the same, and Freelancer is the same..............hmmm logic dictates something here...ah! Perhaps its not SP2?
Its an easy thing to blame, but how on earth would SP2 stop a game from working? It may stop you from connecting to Multiplayer without granting access through the firewall, but simply put - it cannot stop the game working full stop!
SP2 didn't change anything along those lines at all - so it certainly IS NOT that!

I take it you have installed Direct X9.0a/b or whichever you prefer
Take it you don't have a 'cracked' or 'version changed' Freelancer.exe file - because that DOES happen with one of those that has been fiddled with!
Maybe take it back to the store where you bought it? Maybe try the reinstall once more.....maybe scan for nasties on the computer. Maybe your comp doesn't reach min specs?

I dunno Chips, mi amigo. I'm long rid of SP2 due to severe framerate drop on FL and just about any other game I played. And it's not my machine. Boscoe's Bad Boy is now Boscoe's Terminal of Terror!. AthlonXP64bit 3200, Twin Western Digital SATA 150's RAID striped, 1 gig DDR pc2700 Crucial Ram, MSI K8T Neo mobo running 800 FSB, ATI Radeon Pro 9700, and other goodies. In other words, a pretty damn high end system. With SP1 on XP Pro, I had all graphics, sound, etc settings cranked to the highest settings both in my control panel and game options, and never a drop out or framrate issue even in heaviest combat on any mod. Then put in SP2, barely playable. Removed SP2, back to the Terminal of Terror. Tried again to be sure, same thing, horrible framerates. So, I'm not touching SP2 again, and gladly using Norton Firewall and NAV, along with Adaware, Spybot S and D, and Sypware Blaster. Gotta keep my Terror Terminal away from those bad script kiddies out there.

Very strange, I'm running a XP2500@2500Mhz cooled by watchill 1536Mb's PC400 2*WD Raptors, Ti4600 clocked, with Windows XP-pro AND SP2, every detail setting is set to high without any problems, in Clan battes no problem at all (mind i'm in holland the server I play on is in Australia).

So stop blaming SP2, if you're troubles started when installing SP2 it's another piece of software that won't work with SP2 either since it's out of date or de Manufacturer isen't too quick about getting SP2 support into their product.
