Freelancer and DirectX? - Crashing

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

well as far as i know there is know user data you put in anywhere and the server doesnot have a passward. the only thing that i can think of is that i formatted my computer and when i installed freelancer i put in my mp account id. mybe if i dont do that and just do the one it gives me and see if that will work but the only problem is i dont know how i can redo that with out reinstalling windows. does anyone know how?

the sucky thinkg about doing that though is that i will have to start my game over on the server i play on, that is if it hasnt gotten deleted yet.

or maybe its still the directX problem.

FLSpew.txt????

What sort of bastardized Freelancer game you got there? Are you using a mod or something? I've never seen that filename ever on my computer. I've used a couple of mods but flspew.txt sounds like something that did not come from Digital Anvil.

This link indicates one of 2 things. Either the server is having problems...not you with staying connected to the global server. Or the MP ID you put back in when you reloaded FL was wrong.

Downgrading versions of DirectX will never be encouraged around here by those that have tried and failed before and know better know. Did you say you're service pack verison? I'm assuming we're talking about WinXP with the mention of restore points.

ok my pc is useing winxp sp 1 i keep my system restor off, i turnd it on today and am going to start useing it now. i had derectX 9.0c installed that is when my freelancer started saying connecting to globle server for ever and ever and no servers would show up so i used a program to revert back to dX 8.1 from the win xp disk , my system now says i have derect X 8.1. now i can see servers but when i try to connect to any server ( i have tryed like 20 servers by now) i first get a window saying that it timed out basicly then when i close that window i get the one i showed you.

then i tryed to install derect X 9.0b witch worked before i had this problem but now i get no servers even with derectX 9.0b when 9.0c is what messed every thing up, i need 9.0b for a nother game i play. this is all really confusing. do you think microsoft knows of this issue and will have a new version of direct X soon?

also i have checked my mp account id over and over becouse befor i reinstalled windows i printed it out and they match. not that it matters becouse my game probably isnt there anymore. do you know of a way i can have fl make me a new id?

You can try those unofficial DirectX uninstallers, but I don't usually recommend them as they have an annoying habit of causing more harm than good for some people, and these problems usually necessitate reinstalling Windows. Still, that was when they first came out, so they should be more reliable now (hopefully) .

DO _NOT_ use DirectX uninstallers!!! They messed everything up! and as it has been said: I think it IS neccesary for me to reinstall windows, cause DX is wasted.

And btw: I do not think that DX has anything to do with your MP games. have you checked your firewall settings???

and: FL isn't running at all at my pc, neiter with DX 9.0c nor with _reverted_ (this might have nothing to say though) DX8.1 or 9.0a

---EDIT---

Does anyone else have a FLspew.txt??? (a very suitable name :-) )

it says something about Librarys it's loading, it'S like a log of FL and modders use it for debugging.

i dont have a firewall

Are you sure? XP SP2 includes firewall.

I have had FLSpew.txt before as well - not sure what it was from, maybe Ioncross or some application....i only noticed it once before deleting it

Just did some tests and searchs. I have two 'puters, one strictly for my server and the other for playing FL (a client) among other things . The FLspew.txt file was ONLY on the client system. It's contents look similar to the CONSOLE window in flserver. Lots of warnings, errors, messages about loading files, etc. On the server I do not even have that file, no where. So it must be a FL client message spew.

As for your problem, I have heard FL will not work correctly with any version of DirectX except v9.0b. In fact when I installed v9.0c I had lots of crashs, some were BSODs. But they are gone now when I changed the motherboard's memory setup from single to dual channel (nForce2 chipset). I have no clue why that would stop the issues in playing FL but that is the time they stopped. Go figure.

BTW I also have SP2 (and DirectX v9.0c) on both 'puters with WinXPPro firewalls disabled because I have a hardware firewall. I have had no problems on the server.

LOL about meself...

I expected FL to delete all old configs. It doesn't do that. I also thought I deleted my old configs, I didn't. So guess waht it was :-)
