@deanspeed - What exactly was the difference between when FL worked where you could accss the global server list and when it didn't work? From another thread it sounds like it was you reinstalling WinXP and SP1. Whether you have a (an INCOMING port blocking only) firewall or not shouldn't make a difference for FL client. So besides an OUTGOING port blocking firewall like ZoneAlarm, I have seen only three other reasons for not accessing the FL global server: 1)DirectX v9.0b is not present, is messed up, blocked, whatever and 2) you have fundemental changes with the OS and 3) your ISP is blocking ports and/or IP addresses.
Number 1) is the reason for these failures 98% of the time. DirectX is fickle and must be set correctly with full access.
Number 2) should manifest itself in other ways. Like BSOD's, crashes and other blanket type issues.
Number 3) happens usually due to protective parents or highly restrictive college ISPs.
This is not an end, be all list. I just read about xfire and it is the equivilent of the FL global list server except it lists by gamer and not by game. xfire has very little other information on their website but I think Stinger may be right, it may be affecting your FL and access to the global server list via DirectX.
@Ajim - Phew! That's a long post. I have tried to go through it but it doesn't make much sense so I can see your frustration. There is some info there so I will try my best. This stands out:
[Enum\Class\Nat
"Enable"=dword:00000001
"Loader"="NatLoad"
"Driver"="Class\Protocol\Nat"
You could change the enabled dword to 00000000 instead of 00000001, might disable the NAT server which is of course the firewall. You may also be able to create a DMZ in this gateway here:
[Class\Protocol\Nat
"DmzState"=dword:00000000
"DmzHostIp"="0.0.0.0"
"Mode"=dword:00000003
Change the DMZState from 00000000 to 00000001 and the DMZHostIP to your 'puter's LAN IP address. Again no garuantee it will work.
I looked for info on your modem and there is very little. There is this line in the specifications: " Web Based HTTP management GUI". This implies you should be able to access the gateway directly. Usually this is only through the LAN, using any browser pointed to the gateway's address. Good luck.
