sound

I have no sound. It pisses me off. I have tried to the best of my ability everything I've read on how to fix it. Is there a mod or something to help me out?

To start with, do you hear sounds with other games? If yes, I would check the ReadMe file what is loaded with freelancer as to compatibility with sound cards. Have you checked the driver updates?

We need some specs to work with in order to help you. Which version of Windows do you have? Which sound card? Etc, etc.

To start with, I'm running Windows XP Pro on an IBM machine with a 1 gig Pentium 3, a 32 mb Geforce graphics card, and an "SD Live! Wave Device. I went throught the readme multible times and deleted said files and installed new ones. I wasn't able to bring up whatever list shows my audio codecs. I go to sound devices under control panel and click on audio codecs but it dosn't do anything.

Sorry an "SB" Live Wave Device

So have you tried the newest drivers for your sound card/chip? Also, try searching this forum, as the installation of the "Frauenhoffer" (I think that's how it's spelt) codec can sometimes help.

Yeah, I installed the latest driver. not sure if it worked.

What do you mean? You are not sure if you installed the dirvers correctly, or you are not sure that it fixed the problem?

Have you tried the codec yet?

Also, try this; type "dxdiag" in the "Run" box, and try lowering the "Hardware Acceleration" in the "Sound" tab. Test FL.

Reading your info post you Deleted or Uninstalled the drivers?

If you uninstalled and then would suggest you check the windows settings, it's easy to mute them. So the Sound icon in your sys tray{next to the clock}, double click it and check that Play Control and Wave/MP3 hasn't been muted or the volume controls set to Zero.

If you manually deleted the drivers then dont, but use the uninstall in future. But run the driver installer, if it gives you the option to repair don't choose to do a full install.

The sound works in all my other program, so it can't be muted or anything. I ran the installer for the latest driver I could find and it didn't do anything. I also can't seem to find the list or whatever that allows me to access the audio codecs. I deleted the files in system32 like the CD said, but it also didn't help.

Where do you go to access the codecs to delete them? Also, I can't find the Fuanwhatever codec. Can I download it from someplace? And when I said the driver didn't work, I mean I went into dxdiag and it still showed my sound card as having the old driver. I also get error messages when I try to install it.

Try searching this forum for the word "codec". Regarding the drivers, try completely removing your sound card through the "Device Manager", deleting all older drivers (if you can find them), and then reinstalling the card/sound chip. Which version of Windows did you say that you had?
