GeForce 4MX Crashes

I was wondering if anyone here could inform me as to the possible difficulties of running FL on a system using a GeForce 4 MX, as FL claims it is unable to recognise the video card.

Nonetheless I've been running FL and its mods for months without problems... until another game actually tore the guts out of WinXP itself, eventually causing such damage I had to format my entire HD and clean-install Windows itself. Before the problem reached that stage FL often rebooted my machine, usually if left idle (even for a matter of seconds) and usually when docked. Almost all other apps had similar problems, and the cause appeared to be DLL/COM+ failures caused by the dodgy game (not FL!).

Now I've got a clean install (I HOPE!) of WinXP and FL is the only game on the system reinstalled yet. So I very nearly stained my trousers when the dreaded reboot occurred as usual. This time XP claims the culprit to be my nVidia drivers rather than 'unknown' drivers. I tried rolling back from the 61.77 to the old 56.72 drivers but no luck. I currently have DirectX 9.0 - yes, the one that come with FL, as even before my aforementioned disaster my PC did not seem to enjoy DirectX 9.0a/b much at all. I've been running FL on DX9.0/56.72 for a while before any of the above, even the same mods, with no such problems, so I'm wondering what's wrong, and if it will spread through XP like my earlier troubles...

I'm running a 420 MX 64mb Vid card and can run FL with no problems. Got XP with 1gb ram. My current driver cam from Windows update. That way I know it's compatable with XP. About 25mb download.

I have the old 440MX card, and no probs whatsoever.

My suggestion would be spend the 20-30 quid (or $50) and buy an upgraded card. It will end alot of issues for you by the sounds of it. You can get them cheap at second hand stores - in the UK , CEX (Computer Exchange) usually stocks a good amount of cheap second hand cards.....which is what this one was, and its 18 months since i bought it, with no issues at all
