games crashes when i try to close the game

ok what happens is this....when i play the game its fine i can use the change charedter option but any other option like change server,exit game, basically any of the f1 options except for change charcter crashes the game and the comp i have to hold the power button in and restart

ive serched the depths of the forums for an answer to my problem and the only one that comes close is this one... old thread . there is a reply from the previous uk server host ive asked him and he didnt have much help for me..ive done a clean install of all files to do with fl and got rid of the mod software i have had.... i admit these problems did start after using FLMM... ive never had the problem before and the game has always run so well without any problems....i was wondering if anyone had some more info on how to sort this

oh yeah and ive updated directx and all graphics drivers for the geforce 4 mx440

It could be a problem with your graphics card because, as you know, FL was one of the first games written for Dx9. Do you have another card that you can throw in to test whether or not this is the case?

neah i dont lol lack of funds due to running the server ..... never had this problem before everything runs fine untill i try to log out or change server ... it loads up fine ...

very very weird this

Hmm, I'd uninstall your graphics card drivers, and then use "Driver Cleaner" to remove all old files. Then reinstall the latest drivers you can find. After that, also reinstall DirectX 9.0b. That should do for a start.

I'm now having this problem with freelancer. I actually didn't have a problem like this a couple months ago and i didnt change vid cards. I'm gonna go ahead and try a previous display driver and see what happens. Ill post to let all know. Kinda sucks to to have to crash FL everytime your rdy to exit. Oh and for those of you that cant get your start bar to pop up, it does indeed pop up in the background, you just cant see it. Just do this, 1: hit the windows key, 2: scroll up 2 times, 3: hit enter, 4: hit enter again. This will activate the switch users option for windows, and take you to the user screen. Once you log back in, you will still see freelancer frozen, just go ahead and hit the windows key, and now it should let you see the start bar, therefor allowing you to right click freelancer and hitting close. If you do all of these steps and you still cant get the start bar, at step 4 press the right arrow key first then hit enter. This will log you out and close all programs. I hope that helps you guys that are having to reboot. Ill let ya know what happens with the previous vid drivers.
