Geforce FX & FL

I know this topic has probably been done to death but has anyone found a way to get freelancer working properly with the Geforce FX cards?

I tried the advice given out by Microsoft and have fiddled with the flconfigdatabase file but to no avail.

I havent played this game since my Ti4200 died last year and now I've just bought a FX5900xt (great card btw) but the textures are all screwed ingame.

I know it isnt this card, my FX5600 has the same problem on my other machine.

Have also tried about a dozen different nVidia drivers.

Someone please tell me that it can be made to work with an FX card - I love this game.

Thanks

S

The only thing that I can suggest, off the top of my head, would be to install the latest version of DirectX (9.0b). Try reinstalling it even if you have the latest version, as you may have some corrupt dll files.

I had the same problem, what I did was reinstall the latest drivers (yesterday) from Nvidia, then reinstalled directx9.0b. Runs like a champ now!

Thanks for the tips guys.

No joy unfortunately - I d/l nVidia 56.74 and DX 9.0b but the textures are still missing - whole lotta nothing.

Looks like I gotta get an old GFX card for one of the spare machines if I want to run FL. But I wont - my new card rocks on all other games including that DX9 abortion called Halo, why the hell should I fork out more bleeding cash to play a game I've already paid for.

Microsoft are consigning FL to the scrapheap by refusing to release a patch. LOL MS *NOT* patching some of their software - unbelievable!!

Play on, Freelancers - I envy you.

Bye

I'm having the exact same problem, but I don't have a GeForce FX. My card is a GeForce MX 440. Tried reinstalling freelancer (several times), and have the latest directX and video drivers (updated yesterday). If anyone knows how to fix this, please let me know.

It is not the card.......I have the fx 5900 as well and NEVER an issue.
Completely uninstall the card drivers from add/remove programs. Then go to device mgr and uninstall the card. Then go look for any signs of driver files out there anywhere on your drive and delete. See if you can also find DX 9b and uninstall it as well
Shut the computer off. Not restart. Pull the power plug and hold down you power button for 30 seconds. Afterwards plug the power back in.
Fire the computer up and let it find and install the card as necessary. Reboot if it asks you to
Go to microsofts site and download and install DX 9b. Reboot.
Go to your Motherboards manufacturers site and download the AGP drivers as well as the the chipset drivers for your board and install.
Go to the manufacturer of your video card. NOT Nvidia YOUR manufacturer! and download and install the latest driver for you card. All the time rebooting as necessary!
Finally go into the advanced settings of your card and check on the antialaising, antistrobic filtering, hardware acceleration, and image quality and try adjusting them.
This should fix everything.......also if you do not have at least 512MB ram and a 2.4Ghz 800 FSB proc this card is probably a total waste of your cash.
Finally check the AGP apture sixe in your bios. It should be at least 64MB. (Actually I have had issues making it anything else but that.)

@WAN_SOLO if one has a FX5900XT card with 256 mb of RAM, should the AGP arpature be adjusted from 128 to 256 in the bios?

I had to do the same thing that WAN_SOLO stated. If you update just your card drivers, but not your MaindBoard Drivers you are not going to get the full use out of your video card. VIA, Intel, and nVidia release updates to address problems with their chipsets. They are free for download at their sites. I found this out the hard way when I upgraded my machine to the Althon 64 processer. I had to resetup my machine twice before I checked to see if there were updates. These updates can be found at the following sites:

Via Corporation

Intel Corporation

nVidia Corporation

I hope this helps

@ Kingrat......I would have thought so......when I first got my MB I cranked the AGP apeture up to 256....the vid card has 256 so seemed like a good idea.....Apparently the MB/vid card didn't agree. The MB and Fx card are both MSI brand so there should not be a compatability issue......anyway long story short I seems to have POST, boot, stability issues when I change the AGP apeture size in the bios from what ever the default is.
I have been trying to get a really clear definition of exactly what it does and why it is there. If anyone finds a good solid article somewhere please post a link to it.l

@WAN_SOLO Thanks, I am also researching this as well. You see I am a tech junkie when it comes to hardware. I will bounce this question off my brother as well. If I find anything out, I will let you know.
