Installing 2 copies of Freelancer on same computer

In a couple weeks I am going to get a new (MUCH bigger hardrive), and I would like to try out some of the new freelancer mods like Victors or the Rebalance mod. However, I don't want to mess with my original freelancer, I would like to have 2 copies of FL on my machine, one original and one modded. Can someone give me some advice on what to expect or how to do it? Can I just install it to a different directory on my C: drive? Any problems that I might run in to?

Thanks!

you can't actually install two copies of Freelancer, but what i'd recommend is once you've installed it (the fresh clean, unmodded version), simply go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\ (or wherever you installed it), drag and drop the Freelacner directory using the RIGHT-HAND mouse button, and click on the menu that appears 'Copy to here'. It'll take a good 5 minutes to copy it, because of the size, but when it's done, rename the folder to 'Freelancer (unmodded)' or whatever takes your fancy!

This next bit si if you like to have things on your desktop:
Then enter the 'Freelancer (unmodded)' directory, go to the EXE folder, right-click on the Freelancer.exe file, select 'Send to', then 'Desktop (create shortcut)'. Then go to the desktop, and rename the 'Shortcut to Freelancer' file to 'Freelancer (unmodded)' or whatever takes your fancy! Then you'll be able to access the unmodded version of Freelancer without having to go through Windows Explorer!

I'm assuming you know how to install the MOD Manager and all the MODs, so I won't bother with that bit!

I did this so I wouldn't crash any servers I visited! Sure it uses 1.8GB of space, but it saves the hastle of reinstalling it later!

Hope that helps,

Dale

Thanks!

Also, I guess I should have noted that you could have been as technical as you wanted - sorry to make you type out all those instructions on copying and creating shortcuts. But thanks for taking the time anyways! :-)

lol - if you do as cardamine said, but rename teh original FL directory, and then create the shortcut like he said, just insert your CD and you can install again
