Various Weirdness

Ok I have 2 problems.
1. All the ingame text is like 3 sizes too big.
2. I've followed the instructions for the sound fixes (I've tried basically all of them) I only have 1 Fran MPEG codec (The advanced one) It's priority 1. My problem is that I get the Dialog and Music just perfect, but not the SoundFX, no engine noise, no guns firing, no "taking hits" sound, nothing.

Here is some basic info.
Asus A7N8X (nForce-2 chipset that has built in sound)
Geforce FX 5700 Ultra 128meg
Athlon 2000+
Windows XP Pro (All Critical Updates installed)
DirectX 9.0b

Any suggestions with these problems would be greatly appriciated.

edit: Oh, and when I move the slider to adjust the sound, I do here the sample gun fire.

Try slowing down hardware acceloration a tad and make sure you have the latest WHQL certified vid drivers.

I stepped down the accel step by step, nothing helped, and I have to latest WHQL nVidia drivers.

Maybe other drivers on the system? Chipset, Windows updates, Sound Card updates, how about resolution settings within game even?

One possiblilty might be updating the nForce drivers. I'm checking it out lets hope for the best, but I really don't want to start tearing out windows updates and stuff just to make the sound work.

edit, I did have to install the parser for XML because I got the XML code before I did so, maybe that fooled with the text size?

edit again: I'm going to clarify on the sound problem, I do hear interface sounds, and the sound when you try to fire while going in cruise mode.

What version of vid drivers are you using? I used to have text problems early on but an upgrade fixed it for me.

Those are the current flavor of the month. Are there any other drivers you might have that are out of date perhaps?
