mouse stuck computer stuck {crash}

hello

I have encountered these problems when I was playing SP but they happened rarely but since I started playing MP and got in 250k missions and against other of players it happenes all the time!

the problem is like this:
when moving the mouse its simply get stuck in some direction, some times keeps firering , then I quit the game using F1 or Alt-F4 the mouse stays stuck in windows so I restart and play again until it stucks again ..
sometimes its even worse the computer get stuck {had to use Power-off button}
or even crash {blue screen}.

CPU: P4 2.4GH
MEM: 256MB
V.Card: Sis 32MB
OS: Windows ME
I do not use any mods and did not install any updates to the game.

I would realy apreciate the help or pointing to fourom that solves this {sorry if there is one and I did not find}.

thanks

some simple solutions

1. clean your mouse (remove the ball , check the rollers and clean them) and remove the hood and see if something got stuck under the buttons (spilling a drink wreaks havoc on contacts)

2. check if it happens with another mouse (if you need one buy a cheap 5 bucks one for testing purposes)

3. your cable may be damaged

4. use another port (either USB or Serial)

its not a mouse problem at all, the game gets stuck not just the mouse and even sometimes the computer get crash.
it happenes specialy when there is many action going around me {like 10 ships attacking me and I am firering all the time}

I have tried to reduse the Detail Quality in the game options, its got better now but it still get stuck {sometimes alt-f4 does not help I had to turn the computer off}
I do not use anyother programs, if I wana play FL I restart and then play.

i saw in the fouroms many problems that helps regarding sound problems and mouse lag but that is not the issue to me, I have just to be sure turn sound 3d option off!

sounds like (if you are sure about the mouse ) that it is resource related

you might do well to see what else is runnung as that may help as well (ie processes)
only time i had a similar set of symptoms was when i didnt shut a heavy process (seti) down before playing ,so it is possible you may have something in the background taking up a lot of resources that you have forgotten

if you are sure it is not the mouse it may be a good idea to check your machine for spyware/adware and get rid of it

use a program called adaware (can be found on www.download.com) and spybot search and destroy (can be found at the same place)

also like [Steel said , check for any programs in the background that you do not use , if you run win98 use msconfig to turn them off , otherwise use a little nifty program called Started to remove unwanted garbage that starts up

to reduce drag on your computer minimize the number of icons on your desktop and remove the background picture , also set the display to High Colour instead of true colour (trust me you will hardly see the difference)

the chipset SIS 315E (which is a 32Mb version ) is usually on an external card made by either Pine or ECS and goes retail for about 25 bucks
AGP4X 256bit 3D DVD Playback 375MHZ RAMDAC 2048X1536 AT 75HZ

thanks all

I have tried all what u suggested

first my computer stats {agan!}

2.4 GH
256MB
g.card Sis 32
Windows ME

System free resorses for usage 80% {its the same after I did what u suggested}

sorry, I have acedantly press "ENTER" in the last post

System free resorses for usage 80% {its the same after I did what u suggested}

I reduced my Desctop icons and the background pic

I used spybot and adware and deleted the extra trash

I used hight-color insted of true-color
I reduced the {in FL} the games options visual "Quality" insted of 100% its now 40%, and disabled 3dsound {I have no problem with sound}

things got better specialy after reducing the game visual Quality
but the game still get stuck when there is more than 10 fighters fighting me!

if anyone still got more suggestions plz tell me.

I still need help using "msconfig" I do not know what vital programs that I can not disable and which I can.

for example I have in "msconfig" an Enabled option for MS office, do I need that?

and what about the "task bar" prosses which I can delete?

My best suggestion would be to buy a decent video card
Ati Radeon 9200 with 128 mb goes for arround a 100 bucks
Geforce 5200 cards run arround 65 bucks
they would be a better match with the rest of the system , also you might considder upgrading your OS to either Win 2k or Win XP Pro (but then you are talking serious money)

Other then that , the office program in MSconfig can be disabled , it only makes office start a little faster but on the other hand it does not really take up a lot of resources either

Since you have a 2.4ghz processor your system is powerfull enough to pull arround just about anything and it appears your Videocard is the bottleneck
hence my advice to buy a better one
If you are shopping arround for one buy one that is atleast AGP 4X
and stay away from PCI videocards
secondly look for a minimum of 64 mb , 128 would be better

I know you have to remove the refrigerator door when placing it at the curb , but then the neighbours kid would get away for sure , damn moral dillema's

win 98 me yuk however although not the best os i doubt it is very critical to upgrade
as corwin says it is almost definitely the graphics card ,but one final check would be if you can find someone who will lend you a graphics card with better specs for the day just to try it
however you want better graphics anyway ,take the plunge get a decent card as the system you have is wasted with 32meg graphics

I am waiting for HL2 and DOOM3, i will then buy the needed g.card and upgrade memory, or I will buy new comp since this one is not mine {family comp,my P3 comp got burned few weeks ago }

I was told by other players to try and change some settings in the Bios and change something called "epoche" or "apoche" in the integred options to 64MB, the only thing I found that got numbers is "shared memeory" wich it is 32MB,
do u suggest changing it to 64MB? what is this shared memory for?
and where I can find this "apoche" that might helps me fixing my problem.

Post Fri Dec 05, 2003 2:03 pm

as you are using onboard graphics changing that setting ,if the option is available, should help your graphics but will reduce the amount of memory available to the rest of the system give it a try
btw what graphics card was in your p3 just a thought

Post Fri Dec 05, 2003 6:47 pm

@[steel :

you mean I give a try changing the shared memory in the bios 2 64MB insted of 32MB ? (by the way what/why is this shared memory?)

my P3 g.card was 8mb, it was fine when I had dorms in the univercity good for playing LAN RedAlert2 and HL+CS ...

ok the card out the p3 isnt an option then
shared memory basically is the fact you have no graphics memory of its own
thats the way onboard graphics tend to be so it instead uses your system memory
atm you have 224meg of system as the graphics are using 32 meg
change the graphics to 64meg and you have 192 meg of system
i know it says shared but believe me the graphics grabs all 64meg
oh and i play on my laptop which is almost those settings ie 256m of ddr 2.6g p4 with onboard graphics (but its better on my desk tops which have up to 1 gig of ddr and 128m graphics) though the laptop copes fine so so should your system
