Stuck in 3rd person view..

I was playing perfectly fine all night, but when I stopped and came back to play later, I was stuck in 3rd person view. I pressed the key that takes you from 1st/3rd person but it didn't do anything. There is no way for me to get out of it. After this happens, and I try to quit the game, my screen is TOTALLY distorted, and I have to restart my computer. I already tried reinstalling, but it didn't do anything. Anyone know of any way to fix this?

Here are my system specs:

Pentium 4 2.0 GHZ
256 MB Ram
GeForce 4 Ti4200 128 MB w/ 45.23 drivers
Win XP Home w/ Service Pack 1 and all updates installed.

Any help is appreciated.

u gone into the controls and checked that the 1st/3rd person view is set at Ctrl+V?
