Have you noticed?
Just checking this forum out and I have noticed a few things in common among the tech issues here that I'm not having. I have noticed that alot of the systems are AMD processorss with ATI video using soundblasters for sound. I bought an ATI video card years ago for a PII system I had. Nothing but problems with it. Took it back after about a week of headaches, exchanged it for a Diamond multimedia video card---no more problems. Needless to say NOT an ATI fan.
I've seen issues with AMD machines with Gforces too but never had a Geforce card so can't comment on them. I have not or never will own a machine with a AMD processor(just a personal thing). I have not had any sound or video problems with this new system I bought last December.
I did have problem loading FL at first but turning quick swapping off for users fixed that problem in WinXP Home. I share 'puter with son.
My system is a Wally World(Wal-Mart)/HP unit(Pavillion 563w) that I got for myself to replace my old Slot A PIII with EDO memory 500mhz machine with a soundblaster Live! and soundblaster 3DFX VooDoo AGP video card.
My new system is a 2.4 Ghz, 512 of PC-2100 mem, onboard sound(Avance'97), Intel 845GL chipset for video at 64 meg using the igfx codecs(Intel). No sound or video issues and can play FL at 1024/768 with ease. All drivers updated,DX9a, you name it--if there was a update I got it. Makes one wonder if it's worth the $400.00 for a video card. The sound is different story as I will get a Soundblaster Audigy Gamer(love surround sound).
Drops to desktop at times, just bring it back up from the taskbar/system tray. Freezes,yep---but duh some are easy fixes like not forgetting when your scheduled anti-virus system scan runs(the scan runs and finishes but FL is locked solid) or forgetting to lock your firewall to stop internet activity on my cable modem while doing SP missions--auto update notices get me good. Sometimes though by pressing F1 the game will go to tray and when you bring it back up from there it will start back up in other unrelated cases as stated above.
Stay frosty out there!!! "Check"-Trent
