~f1d055 .... out! out! damn .tmp file

Hi, great forum....

When I finish running Freelancer, even a 'normal' (non-crash) close... I find the following :

In my Windows directory, wininit.ini - containing
"Rename nul=~~f1d055.tmp"
and it creates a System Restore folder with a
_Restore\temp\~f1d055.0 file in it.

This causes a
'Please wait while Windows Setup updates your Configuration Settings"
message every time I boot even if I don't run Freelancer... plus creates a System Restore file when I've turned System Restore Off and deleted the folder (ya gotta have ME to appreciate the necessity :/

I've deleted all pertinent files and it just does it again.

Basic System Specs

Windows Millenium - latest patches, System Restore Off
G400 Video Card - latest drivers
Freelancer Full Retail Version

Both the OS and the game are vanilla out-of-the-box.
I installed the 1.1 patch with no noticeable effect.
No Mods/Hacks/Cheats

TIA for any light shed

Geese, I run WinME, not turning anything off or deleting anything and don't get any issues like that. BTW, is your copy of windows a full version or upgrade? It's possible if your using an OEM version things could be a little different?

I used System Restore when i first got it then i found that when i needed it it didn't work. It's an Upgrade Version (not OEM though), installed fresh (with the 95 cd as verification).

Glad to hear it isn't endemic ... you sure you don't have a line in Windows/wininit.ini says something like 'rename nul=.../~f1d055.tmp, cuz it keeps popping up in mine. Are you using MS certified video driviers ?

Thanks for the reply
