Solution for GeForce FX 5200 Problems

I bought a Sparkle 128mb GFX 5200 card a couple of weeks ago and, upon installing it, found that Freelancer didn't recognise the card and then crashed to a blank screen when I tried to override the error. I tried Detonator 43 and 44 and DirectX 9.0a and 9.0b to no avail. Many people suggested that the solution was to roll back the Detonator drivers to version 41.09; however, this version of the drivers doesn't support any of the cards with the FX chipset and the hack to work around that was messy and unreliable. I thought I was stuck with a lemon until I downloaded the latest Detonators, version 45.23.

People, the solution to the FX 5200 problem is these drivers, Nvidia seem to have taken everyone's complaints on board and seriously improved the stability and performance of the drivers. At 7.6MB, they've slimmed the download a tad too. So if you're having problems starting FL with your GFX card, download these drivers, they should fix you right up.

Well, I've downloaded the DirectX 9.0b userend runtime and the new Detonators (both the english and international versions), and reinstalled Freelancer. Still no go with my GeForceFX 5600. What gets me is that the game worked fine with my GeForce4 Ti 4400, that unfortunately blew about a week after I got the game, and then with the temporary GeForce4 MX 440... all using the 44.03 Detonator drivers.

Any help in fixing this, and I've tried just about all the little fixes posted on this site and others, would be very much appreciated.

Try updating your Monitor Drivers as well
