No rumors, no news... What the...?

Well, I've been playing Freelancer for a while now, having no problems apart from crashes in the beginning which are completely fixed by now.

I recently installed FLMM 1.2, and ran the Rebalance Lite mod. Ran the bat file to change it to OpenSP, and started out in the middle of nowhere in a firefight between hessian sabres and a corsair feet made of a bretonian battleship, cruisers, and weird ""vorlon destroyers" which dissappeared when I came too close.
Trying to fight along with my startflier didn't prove so useful (:p), so I found my way to Toledo, since I got an objectieve to dock there. Docked, got some cut scenes from the main SP campaign, and voila , I had to finish mission 13 in my starflier with 2 justice mk I's. Goodluck.

I didn't feel like doing the whole campaign again, so I deactivated the mod, restored the backup files, and uninstalled FLMM 1.2, which I didn't need anymore - the only reason I installed it was the Rebalance mod.

Launched freelancer to continue with my main character... Only to find that something was quite wrong: There is no news, and there are no rumors, anywhere. It's only like that in my main SP character - everything else (including my other SP chars) works fine, but I need this fixed - the rumors, news, and the overall storyline is something I enjoy a lot.

Help is greatly appreciated.

Did you back up your saved games first? If so, moving them back to the root sp directory should solve it. If this does not work, back up your saved games to a temp directory and uninstall FL then reinstall it. Also ensure that you are running Direct X 9b. If not, download it from Microsuck and install it BEFORE you start playing again. Also, believe it or not, your video card could also be causing this problem. I run a Ti-4600 nVidia card, and I was having simular issues. Updated the drivers, and things are peachy now. Good luck and I hope thios helps.

Thank you.
I didn't backup my save games - I though the mod would leave those untouched.
I've already tried a reinstall and I'm running DirectX 9.0b... I'll check for newer drivers now.

... Nope, no newer drivers available...
