Another Geforce 4 problem, but this one is different and mor

Hi
Ive got Geforce 4 5200, when I run Freelancer just before the game loads it says "We don't not recognize your graphics card, would you still like to continue." I click yes. I enter the game the start up screen comes, then click new game. The intro with the ship getting blown up begins, and it seems alright, maybe a little slow but no big deal.
Then the next part comes on after loading, and everything is brutally slow, and the sound is out of sync. After about 10 mins, for the video to catch up with the sound and the next part loads, its all slow aswell.
Now I did have problems with other games on my pc, as it is only new. Neverwinter nights wouldn't load, medal of honor crashed, ghostmaster would crash on game screen after the intro and mafia wouldn't begin a new game, even tho I could play the tutorial.
So I downloaded the latest detonators and direct x 9b, neverwinter nights was sorted and so was medal of honour, but all the other old problems remained, including freelancer. Plus the new problem of my screen freezing every five minutes on desktop, especially when I played a video file. When rebooting my computer, xp always says the problem was caused by nvidia graphics drivers.
Anyway I know this encompasses more than the Freelancer problem, but its all on the same ship, and the Freelancer problem isn't exactly like the others, although it probably is the same cause.

Thanks alot
Any help would be appreiciated, 4.5

i think that that driver type will allow you to rollover back the the original driver. do that. also, for the slowness: if it still persists lower the antialising for the GeForce to application controlled and that will make the game (or should) faster. when the antialising is set high the game slows down, i have no idea why but i think that the game won't allow high antialising settings. must be too much for the game to render for you to see in space and stuff. if you have windows xp get the GeForce4 440 Go and the game should work fine.

remember: rollback the driver, lower the antialising and if all else fails get the above mentioned driver

Thanks Guardian, another thing I noticed, is since I had the new drivers and direct x 9b put on, the sound file that occurs with the start up of windows is very distorted, any ideas? BTW nothing works now, if you play a game long enough on my pc it will freeze the whole screen.

did you get the driver i mentioned above? that should fix it. you don't just download it, i think. you have to go into the control panel and change the driver there or something

If you try to launch FreeLancer with the latest nVidia drivers it will crash because they are not signed. If you rollback the drivers it should work, but if the rollback thingy isn't working (like when i tried it), go to nvidia.com then the download archive and get the latest signed drivers.

Bye !

The problem with the G-Force 4 card was addressed by Microsuck on their windows update page. I had a simular problem, but not with freelancer, but with unreal II. In my nVidia settings in the dispay property's, I have the image slider set to Quality. Antialias set at 4x and the antitropic thing set at 8x. These settings are recommended by Computer Gaming Weekly for the G-Farce series cards for gaming. I hope this helps
