Another possible fix for the nVidia Geforce card issues

Direct 3D settings

You need to enable your fog emulation table.

Mipmap detail level can be set for blend or high/best quality image.

Amazing as it sounds, half the video games I play tell me to turn this stuff off to make the FPS faster and the video more smooth.

Try it and see, fixed the problem for me.

What's even more strange is that another Microsoft game ('Mech Commander 2) works better (faster) with highest quality (when set to blend, fps are around 25, and when set to best quality, fps are 80+), and with fog table emulation off.
Thats Microsoft for ya...

P.S. I should've known it was the fog table... And another thing: with some combinations of nVidia cards/drivers, Hardware T&L (on the cards that support it) and Alpha Blending produce strange effects and sometimes severe 'pixelisation' (grainy textures)... In this case, turn off the alpha blending and/or never turn lighting/lightmap to max/high, keep it on medium or something like that.

Careful what you wish... You might just get it.
