Freelancer no longer loads

I installed Freelancer, played a few missions - no problem. I then download and install the mod applicator, which gives me some problems (specifically, it returns the error message that it cannot read one of the .ini files). So I uninstall the mod installer - and Freelancer starts to go to the desktop after all three loading FMVs have finished (or been skipped). It doesn't quit, just minimises itself and then stops responding. Each time I exit it with the Task Manager.

So I reinstall Freelancer completely, three times - all to no avial. The exact same problems.

What's going on?

Edit: I don't know which, if any, files are my saved games as implied by a similar thread.

Alright, I had the same problem, just do this.

Go into My Documents, then into My Games, then Freelancer, Accts, and open SinglePlayer. In there, delete AutoSave.fl

It should fix the problem.

Well, I don't know what did it, but I'm working now. Thanks for the tip, dude.

Hi,

same problem to me. I play Freelancer in SP twice, no Problems at all. But after installing the rebalancing mod1.4 it crash from play to desktop. Has to wait ~2 min from error message. After this game crashes on startup screen every time.

First try was an Windows Recovery, which doesen´t work. The only Things which works for was a format c: with building up a new system.
Now i installed the hostile universe mod. again system crashes and is unable to boot game. So as always moding is at own risk. Sorry.

hi guys,

format c sounds a bit drastic

step 1 - if your not using the mod manager and the mod is installed just now you should go get the original ini file zip from the down loads section of this site so your game is returned to its original state ( or just re install the game -takes 5 minutes)

step2-as a quick test go into your save game folder for sp and either backup all your saved games into a zip folder or just move them to another directory. either way make sure there are none of your original saves left in the folder - it should be completely empty.

then install the rebalance mod and see if it can launch the game then - if it can one of your saved games is incompatible - replace them one at a time to find out which one.

it may take a little while - but probably less time then reinstalling windoze

if this doesnt solve anything then id get in touch with the creator of the mod - theres a large thread in the mod announcement forum i think ( read it before posting please - i know its long but since hes onto 1.6b your problem might have bin answered some time ago).

hope this helps,

i found that by deleting restart.fl file sometimes does the job when deleting autosave doesnt work.

Note: Unless you have another recent named save game you could lose your current position/ship etc..

Just my $0.02, but it could just be the cardamine talking.
