Trouble installing rebalance mod 1.4b

Well... finally wanted to try a rebalance mod with the flmm but when I install the mod inside the mod dir, halfway unpacking I get the message : acces to d:microsoft freelancer data ships custom centurion centurion.cmp was denied. (my forward slash aint workin either) I used a clean freelancer install with no other mods.

I don't know.. I guess I just like doin it Sabre-style.

Hey.. I just found a solution.. don´t use the flmm. Just unzip the mod manually and place the exe en data folder in your freelancer directory.. then the mod seems to work fine!!!

I don't know.. I guess I just like doin it Sabre-style.

Yeah this works, but it's hard to unload. Very hard.

The mod has abotu half a dozen of these where the file it's trying to copy has the RO attribute set incorrectly.

The simplest long-term method that allows installation and de-installation thru flmm is:
Unpack the mod.
When it hits a problem with the file.
Find the file in the mod directory (not the one in the msgames\freelancer dir).
Bring up the attributes for that file.
Uncheck the RO attribute.
Apply your change
Apply the mod again.

It will stop on about 10 files. But only take two mins in total.

et voila. You flmm is working tickety boo.

I did a couple of these files but I finally gave up. I don't have that kind of time to spare. This mod is faulty and needs to be fixed.

Ones effort matches ones will to play.

It's only natural.

I would rather play than fiddle with a faulty mod. Besides, I'll bet they have this fixed in no time. It is pretty simple.

If you want a way to identify all the faulty files at once, here it is.

1) Install the mod with FLMM. It will fail.
2) Uninstall the game. It will also fail.
3) Go to the Freelancer folder. The files that are read only will still be there.
4) Fix the files in the mod.
5) Delete the Freelancer folder.
6) Reinstall the game
7) Install the mod

Pretty drastic I know, but it will get it all done in one fell swoop.

Not sure i understand your logic mate.

I was asked whether it took long to fix the attributes using my method by a mate, so i timed it for him (loosely).

From unzipped mod files to working FL mod took me 2 minute & 30 seconds including unchecking the attributes on the 9 files.

You said you haven't got the time? Yet you install the whole game again???

Oh well.

The game had to be reinstalled to play. The mod didn't.

I found this little trick while screwing around with the mod but I can play the game without it.

I am still running win98se and apparently it doesn't like reinstalling the mod over and over. I had to do a cold reboot to get my machine back.
