constant lock ups and crashes in SP

After looking through the forum, I can see some of my problams have occurred before. Unfortunately I seem to be getting all of them.
The problems:
1. flashing/disappearing textures of the screen.
2. The screen will freeze, particularly when joining tradelanes
3. The computer will completely lock-up, that requires a re-boot to get it back.
4. Occational static sounds in the sound track.

My system:
Athlon XP2000+
Windows XP
512MB DDR
GeForce 4 MX 440
Gigabyte mobo

I've updated to the latest detonator drivers = 44.03
updated to direct X 9a
installed the latest via 4 in 1 driver.

If anything performance has deteriorated!
Starting the system with a clean boot doesn't make it anymore stable.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?
Thanks in advance

Latest drivers dont always mean the best. Try some older versions.

And have you tried reinstalling FL?

Do you have a mod installed?

You really should try to lok at the myriad older threads on exactly the same topic, to see if they apply, also state what you've tried to date, to save others wasting their time repeating what you already know.

The 44.03 openly state that they are tuned to improve appearance and not performance. Which they have.

I had same problem (all posted at LR). In my case i beleive i had duff (unbranded) RAM, i purchased and swapped my RAM for 512 of Twinmos (only £10 more on Ebay), and put the unbranded stuff in bank 2. I also upped the voltage in Bios by .2v to 2.7.

These two had the biggest improvements and i've gone from freezing every 10 mins or so, to nothing in about 2 weeks.

Eventually solved my own problem.......

Opened the computer case and noticed the graphics card fan wasn't spinning.
Installed a new cooling fan and no more problems!!

Thanks for your help none the less.
