*Almost* all the sounds, just missing a few
Hi Folks,
I've only just recently put together a new system, and having changed over from Windows 98 to XP (Home), I'm having a little trouble with certain sounds in Freelancer.
For some obscure reason, I seem to be missing the Afterburner sound, and the Cruise Engine charge/in use noise, as well as a whole bunch of other similar sounds.
As I said, I'm using Windows XP with:
Epox 8RDA+ (nForce2 board, with 2.42 drivers installed)
Hercules 9700 Pro (128Mb DDR)
512Mb RAM
I was initially having the problems with cut off speech (about 1 second before the actual finish of the speech) and some juddering in game while speech was playing. I tried the codec shenanigans, but since I was working from a fresh install of Windows I didn't even have anything beyond basic drivers installed (FL was the first game I installed as a test).
The latest (2.42) nForce drivers from nVidia seem to have fixed almost all of the sound problems, bar the missing engine sounds (which ironically was what prompted me to start looking).
I also have an SB Live! 5.1 Player card installed but disabled, running the default WinXP driver it had was also missing those sounds (if pushed I'll update that and see what happens) - I'd prefer to fix the problems with the nForce sound first, but The old Win98 machine uses an identical SB Live card, and has no trouble with the engine sounds.
Hardware acceleration is at max, but I have tried turning it down with no effect.
So, has anyone else experienced these missing sounds (while everything else works fine), and does anyone have an idea of where to look? My current thinking is along the lines of number of simultaneous sounds the card/chip can play at once, but I can find no way to modify this for either card.
