Radeon 9500 pro still not working fine...

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

Post Mon May 12, 2003 3:40 pm

yea i got a similar problem... I have a radeon 9000 Pro and in the cutscene sections of the game.. the framerate is ok at first.. but after a minute the sound and the video lose sync REALLY bad.. like when juni smacks trent after he finds his friend on manhatten.. i hear the smack like 6 seconds b4.. is this an ATI driver issue or somethin? i have catalyst 3.2.. somebody pleaaaaaaase tell me how to fix this its annoying as hell. I even changed the quality settings to crap and it still doesnt work well.

Athlon 1.3ghz
ATi Radeon 9000 Pro/128mb version w/catalyst 3.2
384mb ram
ran in all gfx modes and configs still dont work

The sound on mine goes slightly out of sync (Maybe 1-1.5 seconds).. Thats the only problem i've had in freelancer.

With framerate skipping like that It could be drivers, It could also be things running in the background (Background serivices, spyware etc)

try closing programs you dont need, Also try scanning for spyware with either Spybot S&D or Ad-aware (Its best to use both).

This is only a suggestion and may or may not work, but its worth a try..

You will have problems if your system has less than 128mb of ram (Should be great with 256+).

There're 5 programs running in background (not meaning the taskbar), things like mdm, explorer, systray... Unneeded apps are not loaded.

I'm having this problem every time the d3d rendering is on, so the intro movie clips are playing fine.

I've gathered info from all over non freelancer related sites, a 30(!) issues checklist for radeon 9500 pro, including what to do (for most issues). I will check em out when I get home...

btw. There're already unofficial bios upgrades for all radeon boards...

Ok, I've found it

The only app still running was my firewall. I didn't block netaccess though but it still wrote to a log file every second, got it.

I disabled the firewall and all works fine now.

But it still leaves the issue. When a disk access occurs during game, the screen freezes until the disks r/w operation has ended.

I did a search on some forums about that issue and they give a solution. The card simply needs more power. You can do this buy modifying the mb bios, setting agp voltage to 1.7v (instead of the usual 1.5v).

But the agp's voltage is unmodifiable on my bios ...

So, I need to sort out a way to give more power to the gfx card. And I've got a 350 watt powersuply already.

Pre-bulit computer? If not what kind of motherboard do you have?

Post Tue May 13, 2003 2:21 pm

No, built it myself.

It's an Abit Socket A, type KD7, using the KT400 chipset.

btw. The only 2 "prebuilt" computers I've ever owned: the C64 and the Amiga

And that Amiga is still working! Can't say that about my friends IBM-XT clone

I'm still using win98/se, and all win updates are installed. That's not the problem.
