Blue Screen of Death when jumping systems

This is seriously the most painful issue I have ever had in a game....

When I use the jumpgates from system to system I get a Blue screen telling me that windows has to be shut down in order to prevent damage to my computer...

To remedy this, i reinstalled FL, and this temporarily solved the problem, but after a few successful jumps, the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH returns...

I am at a complete loss as to how I can solve this problem....

My System:
Winxp
Amd athlon xp 1800+
512mb of DDR
Gigabyte Radeon 9000 pro II 128ddr

Any help is much appreciated

I dunno for sure but two things too do:

1) Install the latest Graphic card driveres

2) Sue MS for inventing the BSoD !!! (I will surely hold my thumbs for u)

OH MAN.

I've recently set up a new PC.
AMD 2600+
xp pro sp1
512 ddr333
Ti 4200
MX400 via chipset

I have had every freelancer problem known to man in the last 48 hours. And now, i've just had this same one. I haven;t really given the problem a good bashing yet. But i'll be watching this thread.

You're not alone!!!

What's your spec?

Sorry. I can see your spec.

My Graphics card is an Ati Radeon 9000 pro II, and it has suddenly occurred to me that the NEWEST drivers I have downloaded from Ati may be causing the problem, those drivers being the catalyst 3.4

I shall try rolling back the drivers and see if i have any success, if not I will keep hunting around for another solution

Well, ATI's card are somewhat well known to people that they dont work so well with most games. There are usualy fixes for certain games, bu ATI havnet released anything yet to FL..

U got this fault too now? hehe and I hoped I wouldnt see u here again m8.

On the assumption you meant me. YES I HAVE.

Man this new PC has been a nightmare (but fun). I'm going to try the last WHQL drivers myself tonight.

By looking thru all these threads. It seems that one common denominator is the AMD CPU. wouldn't put it past MS to write around non-intel chips mind you.

Keep it up ppl.

I am not sure about the AMD, but I dont like them. HTey cost less (good),, they are somewhat faster (partly good), on heavy duties they are WAY slower (no good), they intend to crash more often then Intel (not good).

Summary:
AMD is not a very good thing to use. Even if its cheaper thee will always be a downside effect from the expecive part/thing. I would only use, and have always used Intel. (Dont flame me cuz u think I am a big money man, PLZ !)

Good luck too u guys, and I hope NOT that I will end up here when my new comp comes home.. *Hope NOT Hope NOT*

Whilst setting my my new pc with FL. I have experienced dozens of problems. They may all be related to some of the problems i've seen here.
1. Firewall - in my case Zone alarm. Turn it off, or reduce functions to zero. Try it again. If it works, turn them up till it doesn't. You now know where your problem is.
2. Aperture size. Set it to half you system ram. My default was 1/4. This made a difference. (bios setting)
3. Another bios setting. Fast writes. If they're enabled, disable them. If they're disabled enable them.
4. DX play. Tes it using DXDIAG. Use the typing thingy. Make sure you see your words echo.
5. If you're reinstalling on a new machine MAKE SURE YOU WRITE DOWN YOUR ACCOUNT ID.
6. Detonator drivers. Disable extended instruction set for your CPU. (I think only for AMD chips. works with Intel).
7. Turn down all of your graphical settings to a minimum.
8. Don't run any mods.

If these don't work. You're probably playing manic miner and don't realise it.

Tone down the hardware acceloration might help. Zone Alarm works fine, but you do need to allow the flserver and the freelancer executable to run as servers within the firewall for it to connect properly.

A very common Bug (I have/ had the same problem). It seems to be somewhat relatet to Ac97 Sound, but I'm not completely sure of that.

However the fix is easy: Turn off 3D-Sound in Freelancer's Options Menu.
