Game crashes on exiting mp?!?!?

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

Game crashes on exiting mp?!?!?

OK , well it doesn't stop me playing the game I know, but it's annoying as hell. Whenever I quit game, or try to select a different server my machine just locks up. I can ctrl-alt-del back to the task manager but I cannot stop freelancer.exe from running. Hence I cannot restart the game unless I reboot my PC first.

As I have a LAN at home and this machine shares my internet connection, I then have to reboot the other pc's so they can get their IP's off the dhcp server again. As I said it's fookin annoying!!!

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm running Win 2K SP3 on my athlon 1.6xp, Geforce 4 Ti4200.

It's a great game, just a shame there are so many bugs atm.

Try waiting about 30 seconds for the game to unfreeze. Especially if the lock up does not happen everytime you leave a game.

I think what is happening is you're getting hit by a connetion bug in FL.

The game seems to want to send a final packet to servers when you can't connect or ones you just leave. What happens is that freelancer waits for a return packet (that is never coming) and locks up while it's waiting for a timeout.

When this happens, FL will give up after 30 seconds and unlock.

Yes, this is happening to me also, waitng even up to 5 minutes doesn't help.

Here's a workaround until the problem is patched:

When FL hangs, press CTRL-ALT-DELETE, open up the Task Manager, click on the 'Processes' tab and look for a process called something like '~f1d055.tmp', highlight this and press the 'End Process' button. This will close FL and you will not need to reboot.

If you find the mouse is not working then here are the keystrokes:

CTRL-ALT-DELETE
ALT-T to open Task Manager
Press TAB and/or the scroll keys to move to the 'Processes' dialog
Press TAB and then the scroll keys to move down the list of processes
When the '~f1d055.tmp' process is highlighted press ALT-E to end the process.

Hope this helps.
