Screen resolution

I installed the game on my machine, it has an old Phillips 104S 14in monitor that has a maximum resolution of 800x600. When I try to play FL I get 4 shadowed images across the screen. I have tried to get the resolution changed by going into the options screen as I can just about make out what is what but it doesnt seem to work. In the other game I have installed, Battlefield 1942 the monitor runs it at 800x600 just fine with no problems with the install.
I have a Geforce 3 Ti 200 128mb and I am running Win XP Pro. I hpe someone can help.

I manually adjust this file in my HDD
E:\my documents\My Games\Freelancer\PrefOptions.ini

size= 800, 600
color_bpp= 32
depth_bpp= 24

change the bolded line
originally its 1024*768 and unchangable unless you can go inside the game...which you can't see anything in a 14 inch monitor
