Joining own server...

i wanna do like this:
1.start flserver on my com
2.start freelancer
3. use freelancer.exe to join my own flserver.

i tried but i can't see my server through LAN. i heard that i need an active LAN to do like this, now i don't (only got network card sleeping in the tray displaying (the network cable is unplugged), is it true?

and if i have active LAN how do i do this in order to play with my roommate? (2 coms 2 players)

for ur info i am running xp home. with integrated ethernet and no active LAN yet.

After starting flserver run fldirectip.hta,
found in the \freelancer\exe directory.

Enter 127.0.0.1
click "Add Server"
click "Start Freelancer"
multiplayer
lan
double click your server

In XP, there exist a "fake network card" driver called Microsoft Loopback Adapter.
If you install that one and give it an IP, everything should be just fine.

I have managed to get it to work for me all you have to do is start the server up and NOT be connected to the net and do not connect to the net while running the server is running. then run fldirectip.hta and add the ip 127.0.0.1 add server then run freelance. It works for me so it might be worth a go if you can't get yours to work

I would make sure that you could see yourself under network/my network places, and under workgroups. If you cannot see yourself then you will not see your own server in the game. You need to make sure that you nic has the tcp/ip adapter in the netstack.
