Resolution and more...

Hi you guys.

I was wondering...

Early on, I ran the game in 800x600 32-bit.

Thus for the purpose of running the 32-bit. While running 1024x768 32-bit would cause the game to lag quite much.

Now I have changed the settings ti 1024x768 16-bit. The game runs smoothly.

Now my question is: Why can't I notice any obvious changes to how the game looks? From running with 32-bit to running 16-bit.

Yes, you guessed right. I am a n00b on this field.

btw - my specs are:

AMD Athlon 1200 MHz T-Bird
256 DDR
GF2 GTS Pro 32 MB (considering upgrating my gfx to a GF4 128 M

Nog

You don't notice the difference because of the Nvidia chipset. Don't worry, this is a good thing. The GeForce chipsets are so good at interpolating colors these days that 16 bit and 32 bit resolutions have very minor differences when it comes to actual display on the monitor end of things. If you want to see the difference between the two, go to a system where the background textures contain lots of different colors that are shaded gradually in rainbow fashion. In 16 bit there will be a slightly noticible line between the shades of color that is not there in 32 bit resolutions. Even in 16 bit mode that line is virtually unnoticeable unles
s you know exactly what to look for and are actively searching for it.

Ah, ok!

Thx for the reply.

Well, as mentioned above I am thinking of pirchasing a new gfx card for my machine. I would love if you guys could give me any suggestions to which card I should purchase.

Detailed specs:

AMD Athlon 1200 MHz T-Bird
256 MB DDR PC2100
ECS K7S5A Motherboard
GeForce2 GTS 32 MB

I was thinking of getting this:
Asus AGP-V9280 TD TV-Out + DVI
(AGP / 128MB DDR / 2048x1536 / GeForce4 Ti 4200)

Worth it?

The price? Well, kindda hard to tell, since I am from DK and haven't got a money translator at my side.

But the price in Danish "kroner" (crownes) is:

1400,-

But well, in this situation, the price isn't that important. What I would really like to know, was ideas for other cards.

ATI Radeon 9800 Pro is the best card to get if you have the money.
