Game freezes instantly after disconnecting from MP game

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

Game freezes instantly after disconnecting from MP game

Whenever I try to leave an MP game, it freezes.

Happens when I click "Yes" if it asks me if I really want to leave.

Also happens when I click "OK" when if I get pinged out, or if the server is full.

Seems that as long as a connection is made, then disconnected, it freezes.

Just the game itself, not my whole computer.

I'm playing the game on a P3-M 1GHz, 384mb RAM, NVidia GeForce2 Go 32mb, Windows XP Pro, etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

I get exactly the same problem - when exiting the game, leaving a server or if I lose connection to a server the game freezes my whole pc

I have to press the reset button on the tower to restart the pc - even pressing alt+ctrl+del won't do anything

Hope there is a fix ofr this or any forthcoming patch will fix it.

ya dont have to turn ur comp off.. if u have a keyboard that has sleep button press it.. once it goes to sleep press alt, ctrl, del and end it.. or press alt, ctrl, del before pressing the button..

this is not a real solution but i hope someone finds a way to fix this though..

Is it the problem where the screen is all messed up? There is another thread about that. Turns out it's caused by turning on Anti-Aliasing. Turn it off and the problem should go away.

Other than that, I did what caldrym suggested. I put the computer to sleep and immediately woke it back up.

The screen doesn't mess up, it just freezes on the screen that asks you if you want to exit, or the screen that says you've been disconnected, or whatever screen.

For you XP users, here's a much faster shortcut to kill the game and not put your PC to sleep:

1) Press CTRL + ALT + DEL
2) Press "fr" (without the quotes... this will select the freelancer.exe that is running... and you must type them quickly, otherwise you'll end up selecting whatever process begins with "r" *
3) Press ALT + E (this will bring up the End Process box)
4) Press Y
5) Your game will end and you will be returned to your normal life.

* if you somehow have another process running that begins with "fr" and you end up terminating it, try using "fre" or "free" or whatever it takes to make the Task Manager select freelancer.exe ... "fr" just works for me because it's the only thing running in the background that begins with "fr" ... it should work for 99% of others as well.

Now all of that is done blindly, but if you follow those directions exactly and correctly, you terminate the game without having to turn off your PC, put it in to sleep and wake it back, or whatever you do to get out of it.

I hope this helps.

(You know it's bad when you've memorized the keystrokes to terminate a process, lol)
