Running a server offline help...

Hi, guys i was wondering if i could...
Run a MP server from my computer, and start up Freelancer and run on my MP server so i can build my character up...?
any ideas? so far i cant get it to work!

At a local LAN party someone got the server and a copy of the game working at the same time

You can run the server and the game on the same machine. If you select LAN instead of Internet, you should just see your local server.

However, the characters you make on that server are just on that server.

I know that...
but the thing is, it wont show up in the LAN servers!

I have the same problem. The server keeps trying to connect to the list server, but can't unless I'm online, then, it still won't show up when I go into the game.

Hehe, least i know i am not alone in my quest to find my server

I am able to join my own server now. I read something in another post and I tried setting up my server again. I connected the net, made my server available online, put a password on it and made it one player so others wouldn't be mad at me for hosting a server on 56k. It showed up and I was able to play. I don't know why I have to be online to host a LAN server, though...

Thank you,

You can run server/game on same machine and not be online.

1) Fire up the server
2) In the EXE subdirectory in the Freelancer directory is a file named
fldirectip.hta
Double click it. Enter 127.0.0.1 in the box provided
3) Click the "Add Server" button
4) Click the "Start Freelancer" button.
5) Choose Multiplayer
6) Choose Lan
7) Double Click on the name you gave your server when you fired it up
8) Have fun

When I start the server, I switch to console and it keeps saying, "Failed to connect to global list server." I have to be online to connect to that to even start the server. How do I get it to stop trying to connect to the global server?

Thank you,

Don't switch to console

The only reason your server would need to
contact the global server would be to allow
other people to play on your server.

Your server will keep pinging out trying to
find the global, but it will not crash when it
does not find it.

There is a way to host and play on the same computer with no connections to other computers at all (including the net) all you need to do is find a Hub or a switch and connect it to your computer and this will tell the server what it wants to see and post any server you run on the multiplayer screen in freelancer.
any problems with it and id check youre network connections

One could also install the Microsoft Loopback Network Adapter available on most Windowses.

That'll give you a fake network, enabling you to play network games without being connected to a LAN.
