Comp Freezes when connecting to mp

arrgghh help help i click multiplayer on freelancer then internet then freelancer takes me to the sever select screen and says "connecting to global servers"
after about 30 secs of doing FA it freezes my comp and i have to reeboot
any suggestions??? ive tried downloading media player 9 and new video card drivers but no joy

help!

1.2ghz proccesser
256 mb ram
40 gb hhd
3d soundblaster mx460 video card
win xp

i had a damn firewall running in the background
