Why no 1280x1024?

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

Why no 1280x1024?

I'm not sure that anyone here will be able to answer this one, but I'm wondering why the resolution tops out at 1280x960. Anyone know? I'm running on an LCD and anything lower than its native res of 1280x1024 looks a little blurry. Its not a big deal, just wondering. Maybe this is something they can add to a patch?

I love 1280X1024 it's a shame they didn't add it cuz now I have to run 1024X768.

Can't you edit the .ini file? You could do the same in C&C Tiberium Sun I believe

From what I have been able to gather....The program's 3d images and static pictures are only designed to go up to 1024x768....If you increase it more...it may distort them.

1280*1024 is actually a disorted resolution, where the width and heigh does not match the relative proportions 4:3. 1280*960 does instead, as does 1600*1200.

You might hack it in the ini file for settings under my documents/my games/freelancer

Bargib,

Thanks for the solution. For anyone else interested in this "hack" just open up the PerfOptions.ini file with notepad located in My Documents\My Games\Freelancer. Scroll down to the part marked [Display and change the entry for size= to the res you want. If you've changed the res to 1280x1024, when you go back to options in FL the display will still be marked as 1280x960 even though its actually using 1280x1024. I took several screenshots with the two different resolutions and then opened them up in photoshop just to make sure. Have fun!

Yea I had to do that.. I run everything at 1280X1024... 1280X960 sucks to me.. It's just not right.

Oh well ...

actually 1280x960 is right and 1280x1024 is not ;-))))

1280x1024 is a 5:4 mode and 1280x960 is a 4:3 mode. 640x480, 800x600
and 1024x768 are also 4:3 modes so linear scaling is possible to 1280x960
but not to 1280x1024.

I don't know the history why 1280x1024 was invented but it might have to
do with technical restrictions of the available hardware at the times it
was invented.

Anyways ... on 1280x1024 a circle sometimes is not a circle ;-)

Use Nokia MonTest to find this out ...

I have always run 1280X1024 and think it should always be implemented.. I hate to run 1600X1200(too small) or 1024X768(too big). And 1280X960 leave too much black space on the sides.
