MP DX9 Problem Fixed

Well, I finally figured out why DX9 was getting corrupt. After much trial and error, I discovered that my Virus-Check was corrupting the install of DX9, particularly the DirectPlay component. This is the first time it has ever corrupted an install, but I guess there's a first time for everything.

This has resolved my freeze at the MP Server List screen, and I am able to play MP!

Don't be an idiot like me. Disable your virus software before installing DirectX 9!!

Well, that does not help for me. I disabled NAV2003 and installed DX9 from Freelancer cd. Still it won't connect to the global list server

I couldn't see the list when i installed DX9 from the CD. On the otherhand! I downloaded Dx9 from microsoft's webpage and it worked right after that.

FYI, discovery of this fact only occurred after multiple restores and reinstalls of DX9. From what I can tell, once you have a corrupt DX9 install, there is no reliable way to fix it. The only way I was able to fix it was to use the Restore Point prior to installing DX9, confirming that my DX8.1 DirectPlay tested OK, disabling the Virus checker, and then installing DX9.

Even then, it was hit or miss. The only 100% sure way to fix this problem is to do a clean install of Windows.

Well, further testing proved it was a conflict between Ontrack's SystemSuite 4.0 and DX9. After removing SystemSuite, DX9 DirectPlay returns to normal operation.

System Specs:
AMD 2400XP
Asus A7N8X-DLX
Windows XP Pro
512MB PC2700
Ti4200 128MB
