total system freezes - help!
Hey folks -
Just got the game Friday. Here's the deal:
System:
AMD 2000+
762mb RAM
ATI Radeon 9000 pro
defragmented hard drives
creative sb live
The original OS was windows 2000 pro.
Symptom: total system freeze during play - happened
at any time during the game - initial menus, firefights,
docking, landing, trading, etc.
This is a system that has run Morrowind bug-free, which is,
as some of you may know, amazing.
I completely reloaded with Windows XP Pro, latest catalyst 3.2
drivers, directX 9 (I was already running direct9), latest
creative soundblaster drivers, service pack 1, and etc.
I have tried literally every single setting for the ATI card:
one notch down, fast write off/on, optimize for performance,
optimize for quality (open gl and direct x), many different
resolutions (desktop and in-game), every single option in-game,
from reduced performance on.
This is definitely an ATI/Freelancer problem, as it's the monitor
that dies (I've had the monitor die to the point of geting "no signal".
So, anybody else have this problem? Have there been any
headway in getting this resolved?
Great game, just wish I didn't have to re-play the same scenario
a kabillion times hoping and praying it doesn't lock until after the
next time the game is saved.
Thanks much for any help you can give here,
