DirectX 9 recommended, but why does it run better with DX8?

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

DirectX 9 recommended, but why does it run better with DX8?

When i installed Freelancer i ignored the advice to install DirectX 9, and the game worked perfectly with DirectX 8.2. Totally smooth. Later on i wanted to try multiplayer, so i had to install DirectX 9 otherwise the game wouldn't connect to the server. But ever since the graphics are sorta j.e.r.k.y., especially near planets and when i turn the ship around. Did someone else notice this problem and knows a fix for it? Maybe i could uninstall DirectX9, but how do i do that?

My system:

Athlon XP 1600+
512MB RAM
GeForce 2 Pro (nvidia drivers 41.09)
Soundblaster Live!
Windows 98SE
DirectX9 from the Freelancer CD.

****y motions in multiplayer games, or LAG, isnt usually caused by DirectX, but by the server speeds and your own internet connection. In other words, ****y motion = bad connection/speed

In case you can't read he said he couldn't even connect to servers. So I'm guessing he is saying that in SP it was ****y. And I'm not sure what I would recommend but if you can't play MP and don't want to you could uninstall DX9 and roll back to 8.1 then install 8.2 again.

After installing DirectX 9 i can play MP, that's why i installed it. But the graphics are j.e.r.k.y in single player now either. I'm familiar with lags and it sort of feels like lag, but it isn't lag.

Did you reinstall your graphics driver after you installed dx9? May want to see if that helps.

Something you may want to try before re-installing your video card drivers is actually to run the direct x diagnostic tool first. Sometimes just by running it, it can fix those problems by updating its own values in DX9.

I already did both of it. No change.
