SMALL MULTIPLAY CONNECT TO GLOBAL SERVER FIX

After watching my poor brother in law try to connect to the global server and nothing happening, I felt it was my duty to help the man out. So here is a small fix for you gents that are having problems connecting to the global server.

1. Right Click Your Freelancer Icon on your desktop

2. Go to Properties

3. In the Target Area you will see "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\Freelancer.exe"

4. Now at the end of this you must add -s(IP Address)Port)
so it will look like this "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\Freelancer.exe" -s(IP Address)Port)

5. The only thing with this is you have to actually know the IP address of the server that you are connecting to and the port of the server. Servers usaully use the defualt port of 2302 so try that so in the end this is what the text in the target box should look like

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\Freelancer.exe" -s24.150.68:2302

This really won't connect you to the global server but you will be able to play multiplay games. Providing you know the IP address of a server. So give it a try with connecting to a friends server and cause some Multiplay Mayhem. If you have any problems feel free to ask and I will do the best I can to help.

Have you actually tried this? Because it doesn't work.. I tried to connect to ACAN server and I had the correct ip and port and it didn't work. I tried it like a week or so ago (this info is in the readme).
I think you still need to be able to connect to global server for it to actually show an ip pop up. I tried connecting through ASE too.

The problem for all people who cannot connect to global server (like me) is that there is something wrong with their dx9 and that directplay network garbage.
Some lucky mofos have reinstalled Dx9 and had it work somehow, but I have reinstalled dx9 from like 15 different sources and I have tried installing dx8.1 and THEN dx9 and bunch of other crap, but none of it worked.

If you click "save all information" after running dxdiag (start>run>dxdiag) it gives you a read out of errors. For me, there were about 35 missing registry keys. My friends computer can connect so I copied all the registry keys from his computer to mine, and that got rid of all the registry problems but still there were other errors within DirectPlay that I cannot fix.

Anyways, I wish Microsoft would fix this or at least tell me what the hell is going wrong. I think I will wind up reinstalling windows to try and fix it, because I know this will affect all games using directx 9 network capabilities...

It really angers me that this is such a wide spread problem. I checked all my brothers network settings, ports everything!!! It all matches my computers configuration. I even called our ISP and they told him everything was good to go. He was just about to frag his comp before I found that little tidbit in the readme file. Once he places an IP and port the way I explained it saves them to LAN kinda like a favourites. He now has a good list of servers that he can choose from. I am sorry that it did not work for you, but it does work. I am just trying to help out anyway I can
