account name / password problems

I just installed Freelancer and whenever i try to play multiplayer on any server it says that my account name / password isn't valid on this server. I have never been able to get it to work. What is wrong? I have only installed it once and i never typed in an account name or password

Thats strange...did the text box come up the first time you started multiplayer, with some sort of really long number?

I have this same problem. It did give me a user ID, but I have never set up an account name and or password.

I checked in the Freelancer directory and opened up the Examine My ID application. According to that my account is working fine. But when I open multiplayer, I pick a server, any server and everytime I try to log on a box comes up and says "please wait, this is taking longer than expected" and then the machine sits still for about a minute. Eventually it says that my account and password aren't valid on this server. If I push the escape button before this happens, it still reads the same message.... Any help would be appriciated, I am really looking forward to some multiplayer action.

I have the exact same problem.

YES, I bought the game, registered the game, etc.

What could possibly be the problem?

Perhaps a Windows XP firewall? I'm almost certain I disabled mine, so what else could it be?

I have also encountered this issue with people trying to connect to my server in the last couple of days. I even installed it on my work machine and tried to connect and recieved the exact same error. I have screenshots if it would help.

Well I got it working on my work box. This is what I did:

1) Unistall Freelancer and use regedit to delete any leftover keys (searched for 'freelancer')
2) Reinstall DX9
3) Reinstall FreeLancer

You'll get that error message any time the game fails to connect to the server.

Ignore the bit about account name and password and treat it like a connection problem.

Ok, I fixed my problem. Here is what I did. First of all, if you have the demo, delete that entirely. Then delete Freelancer, then reinstall direct x 9, then re-install Freelancer. I did this and now all the servers work great. Thanks guys.
