Port Question

Hi,

I am running a dedicated server behind a router that has IP Forwarding setting 2300-2400 to all go to the dedicated server.

My question is, on my other computer when I run the freelancer client and connect to the Global Server, I get a list of all the servers but I never get ping times or the number of people on them.

Is this because of the IP Forwarding? Should I close port 2400 and then force my client machine to use 2400?

I thought that, but ended up the browser is just slow to ping. Note if your adding them in the LAN section you have to know the query port if its not the default.

Hoping ASE supports this game asap or atleast someone makes a custom server browser. Failing that gamespy3d

no matter how long I wait I never get pings or player numbers so I don't think it is a timing issue.

Could you please explain in a bit more detail what you mean by that last part?

If you have ports being forwarded to a different machine, I doubt the replies are even making it back to your other box. Turn off port forwarding and test it that way. If it works, then you know for sure.

I used to get pings and player numbers before turning on port forwarding so I am pretty sure that is what is causing the problem.

If I turn off IP Forwarding then my server won't be on the Internet.

hmmm....I tried setting the router to only route 2300-2399 to the server and then set my client machine to use 2400 in the freelancer.ini file.

No go. Once I did that I couldn't even connect to the global server with the client. (Server was all set)

hmm...what can I do here?

just tried forwarding port 2400 to the client machine but still no go, can't connect to the global server once I set it to 2400 on the client ini file.

reread the server manual and noted that it said that prot 2300 is the port used to connect to the global server.

So I tried forwarding 2300 to my client box and 2301-2400 to the server.

Same behavior, I can see the list of servers from global but I never get any pings or player numbers.

I am at the end of what I can try. I am going to set the ip forwarding to just send 2300-2400 to the server until someone can tell me what the heck is going on.

The Global Server uses port 2300 to connect and to list games available. The game itself still uses 2302-2400, so even though you can see them, you wont be able to connect because you have the ports going to the other machine.

Your only hope would be to find a game on a non standard port.

I don't think you understand what I am saying RevRaz but thanks for trying to help me.

I can connect to the global server just fine and get a list of all the servers and can connect to them just fine as well.

The issue I am having is that I never get ping times or the number of players on the servers on the global list.
