Mutiplayer crashing

I can logon to servers and everything but once I get into space I see a red connection icon and am eventually dropped. I've tried multiple servers a it happens every time. Any ideas? Or anyone else have this problem?

ok i got it to work. least for me. it seems that freelancer is not completly compatible with my onboard lan. my system specs are as follows.
amd2600+ 333fsb running overclocked 13*170
512mb corsair 3200
40gig maxtor 7200rpm
sblive xgamer
abit at7 max2
the onboard nic is a via vt6102 rhine II fast ethernet adapter it works in everything else. i disabeled it in the device manager and installed a netgear fa311 100tx and the game works fine now. dont know what systemboard you are running but if it has onboard lan or a via chipset it is more then likely the cause of the problem. try replacing you nic. also contact microsoft. my case number is srx030307605889 i am calling them back later tonight to confirm what fixed the problem as i would rather be using the onboard nic then a pci card. hope this helps.

Question...I have the same problem...And I do have an SMC router...
I run an Athelon xp 1700 processor
512mg ram
Windows xp
broadband connection for internet (connected through SMC router)

IS the router the cause of my problems?

YES! Thanks for the info Crap. I switched to my Ethernet card and it works now. Whew, then hours of port changing, isp faqs, and microsoft tech support and all I had to do was switch a cable. Figures....

ok....2 people, onboard lan in motherboard...both switch to a NIC and all is ok...I am also running my NIC via an onboard LAN...I think I will be disabling that in my BIOS and adding a PCI NIC.....If this fixes it for you guys..a resolution can't be far off for me! :-)

Thanks for the info!

Ithas been in my experience, that server crashes are caused (at least on my server..the whole 3 times it has crashed) was due to the admin setting the max connection to high. I set mine to the max and the server would crash at between 40 and 48 connections....so i lowered the max to 36 and have had no problems.

Sorry guys, but that works for you. I have a synergy 8-port hub and no onboard lan, but i do have the same problem the server crashes!

Post Tue Mar 11, 2003 5:09 pm

this isnt a server crash. its a problem on our local machines that when we connect to the server everything works fine untill you launch into space. when you do you get teh red connection icon and eventually get disconnected. the server stays up.
