Why was my thread closed?

Want help in running a persistent server? Want to setup a gaming session? Look no further!

Why was my thread closed?

I thought I brought up a perfectly legitimate question. I've put 30 hours of MP game time in, and I'm finding that it's no longer of interest to me. Does anyone have any suggestions as far as spicing things up once you've found everything, and tricked out your ship to the max?

I'm not being a hater here, I think it's a perfectly legitimate topic. If you want to run a fan site with any staying power, you're going to need to actually let people talk and share ideas about the game. If you want to engage in a masturbatory power exercise, then by all means, keep closing on topic threads.

This website has been around for 3 + years. I call that staying power.

Yes, for a older game that no one plays anymore.

I'm talking about this new game here. I'm running an MP server, and I'm wondering where to go with this. If you'd love to help me out, me being a server administrator, please allow some candid discussion around the limitations of the game, and what can be done to overcome them. I think that constitutes on topic discussion, don't you?

LogRoller, it wasn't your post or topic that made me close the thread, it was the whining posts after it. Read my comments after just before I closed it.

Okay, so does this mean that any time some butthole tards up my threads that you are going to remove my ability to have a discussion on the board? I want to understand this for any future interaction, because there are a lot of stupid people out there.

Just start another thread.

Reasonably, isn't it easier for you to delete the offending posts, rather than lock a thread in progress and have us start up again? I'm asking the question because I honestly don't understand why that would not be the case.

Post Fri Mar 07, 2003 4:11 am

Yea, you'll have to excuse us but for some of the places I've been before, it's even considered to be AGAINST the rules to keep creating new threads about the same subject. Actually, reading some of this forum's posts on rules, I assumed that it was frowned upon here also.

(Primarily thinking about the comments about Joystick support.)

Post Fri Mar 07, 2003 4:33 am

Ok, understood, point taken.

I've always had a thing about just deleting posts, seems to me to be more of an intrusion than closing and stating why we closed the thread. Remember, that's just my opinion, and I'm not saying it's right or wrong.

You can feel free to restart a thread here, as long as the previous thread wasn't closed because it was beaten to death etc etc.

If no one minds, i'm just going to address the original issue.

The multiplayer is limited. The problem has only been compounded by dangling in front of the players jump holes and gates that we can stare at but can't use.

What do you do after you've pretty much maxed out? Player killing, baby. Start a war. If there's a clan playing on your particular server, or a couple people who are always grouped and on at the same time, ambush them. Kill them all. They'll get upset, war ensues! It makes the game so much more challenging. And if they whine, it's free entertainment.

The only problem with doing this is that a server admin might object to you doing this. Especially if you kill him while he's carrying a dozen extra class 10 shields to give to his friends. This admin might, for instance, ban you. Not that this has happened to me...

For the record, i'm not just wandering around killing newbies. Only people in VHFs or those that attack me first.

Side note as long as your not killing newbies with your titan lvl 10 fitted ship an admin that has set pvp should not kick/ban you, even if you kill him.

I wouldn't

Okay, so making a PK server is something along the lines of what I was thinking. But there is no measure of success available in the game to make the pursuit worthwhile. Once you amass a certain amount of wealth, the ranks become meaningless, right? So that's out. You can count the number of pilots you've killed, but this is also meaningless once you have achieved a certain level, because it is a simple matter to kill off weak enemies ad infinitum.

There would be a certain interest in banding up and going after other players. For instance, my friends and I played "hide and seek", with a group of fighters tracking down a single person. That was interesting, but these kinds of games are playground games with house rules. We need something a tad more organized to maintain continued interest.

Need to mod in a ctf space sim varient.

Hevily mod it. Allow for team spawns into the playing field as well.

It'd take place in a dead end system like Alaska or something.

You could make simple rules, but it'd be best to even the play field and make the game a bit cooler.

Have the flags set in battleship or weapons platform blockades

Allow differnt ship classes per player but limit their power based on clasee
(light ships are weak in armor and weapons, but high in speed, freighters become your tanks, etc)

Even up the ship stats tho so you don't have lvl 10 weapons, vs. level 1. It's fun to explore and level up, but if you're going to have organized games they need to be based on skill.

Ah well, it all comes back to tribes one way our another. It'd still be a pretty fun mod tho (if done correctly). There's a good engine to work with, I think it might be up to the community to get anything done (doubth that will happen tho)
