Countering MP Hacks and Cheaters

What can we do to counter them in MP games? Could we run some checking tool that is required for running on certain servers? Any ideas are welcome on how we can respond...

I thought the developers said the code was such that everyone had to have the exact same game code to play online together to prevent cheaters? Are there already people hacked and cheating online before the game is even out? My god I think that is the lamest thing I've ever heard :-(

Perhaps when they said game code, maybe they meant the actual files that define everything with the server files overruling. From what I've seen, it seems to still be memory editting.

That may work for some hacks but the majority apply to a file and than cheat that was not actually modifying the code.

Another worry is packet sniffing i have yet to determine if the lancer server can use some encryption on the packets...

Most of the trainers are memory editors.

password protect the servers even a option?

Is there a way to monitor the user accounts on a server?

I mean if someone has been playing for a total of 10 minutes and has a titan with full level 10 everything then something is awry and that account should be deleted.

No, you can override ships/equipments/commodities/loadout packages/market list and so on with your ini file over server's.

I think the best way to handle this would be through X-box Live. Sure, maybe it can be hacked, but certainly it'd wouldn't be as widespread as on PC.

Seriously though, this problem is most upsetting.

If the server admin keeps an eye on things they should be able to spot cheaters.
After all they are only cheating themselves.
I just cant see the point in playing the game with no risk or no need to trade for money.
It would be like playing tetris with a hack that any block could fit anywhere.

Roll on tomorrow....

There are ways to curb this kinda thing, but the best you can ultimately do is keep the honest people honest. Though, I don't think anyone will be scrambling to make a new trainer for a game such as this if a patch fixes it.

For Homeworld: Cataclysm, there's a trainer cheat avaliable. Though a patch for the game stops it from working, and it's required for online play. Maybe this will apply to FL...when a patch is released that is.

it will be hard for Admin to watch the game all the time or check every account everyday

maybe we should have a voting system online.. so people have to vote to say someone is cheating... then let admin take a look after the vote is passed

Hmm the only thing i can think of is something like halflife tv so that admin can see what all the players are doing and keeping tabs on the suspect ones, but whether that could even be incorportated or not is the problem.

Banning accounts has seemed to be successful so far...when you can catch them.
