Alone

I have one question for you multiplayer experts. Can I make a server that I alone can play or make one for myself and some friends?

You can do both. To play with yourself you just make a server, which is not visible on the internet. To play with your friends you make a server which IS visible on the internet, and password protect it so only your friends can join.

Ok can the one by myself be set up so that I will not lose all my stats when I log off?

The server saves your stats when you close it via File -> Exit. It saves all character data and logs off the players, then shuts down. Once you start it up again you will resume where you last were (pretty much, at you last jump at least, be it jumpgate/-hole or tradelane, or on a base).

[EDIT: I wrote that character data is not exportable, however, that seems to be wrong judging by this thread. Refer to the file README~1.HTM in your "EXTRAS" directory on your Freelancer CD for further details. Run a text search on "Moving Your Accounts".
