Annoying MP problem

Alright...so I'm trying to get to a server to I can try out MP, but every time I connect to a server FL just CTDs. I thought maybe my firewall/router might be the cause, so I set up a LAN-only server on another box here, and when I connect to that it CTDs also. I got no idea what's going on here...I've tried reinstalling it to another location and another hard drive altogether...nothing seems to work. I'm running Win2k with plenty of ram (512M

and hd space (4+ GB on C

on an Ati Radeon 9700 Pro doing DX9.0. This is running from the Gamestop promotional CD. Anyone got any ideas?

Who is your ISP?? What kind of connection do you have dial-up or DSL??

I use Earthlink DSL as my ISP.

I tried that...no go...doesn't matter what server I try to connect, it still CTDs without any error given.
