- Click Here to see the picture that comes up when i try to connect.
- See the red circle that is over the word 'NO', it is meant to be a 'YES' because it is LAN.
- And it always comes up with: 'Please Wait. The requested operation is taking longer than expected. Press ESC key to cancel'.
- My internet speed is 100.0 mbps.
- I am running Joeboomz Mk.V/5 IONCROSS Server Operator

Hi have you tryed waiting for a couple of minutes and seeing what happens after that sometimes its a bit laggy and takes a wile to connect. I had that problem once. hpe thats helpful

There's any number of reasons. You need to do a few steps to trouble shoot the problem.

I am presuming that your server is being run on a different machine than the PC you are trying to connect to it with.

First turn off your server PC and then pipe your modem directly into your NIC bypassing any routers you have. Next fire up the PC and turn off ALL firewalls. That includes Windows Firewall, ZoneAlarm, etc.

Now have someone outside your LAN try to connect to your server using the Internet access of the game.

If that player can connect then the problem is with your router/firewall setup. If the player can not connect then the problem is with the game installation itself (rare).

Once someone can connect to your server you can add the router into the mix. Plug the modem into your WAN port in the router and connect your NIC to one of the LAN ports. Restart your PC and make sure all of your firewalls are turned off.

Get the same player who connected before to attempt connecting to your server. If he can connect, good. The problem is now with your firewall setup. If he can't connect then we have some more work to do.

Your router will need to be configured to redirect any incoming traffic on UDP ports 2302-2304 to the LAN address of your server PC (usually 192.168.xxx.xxx). When doing so make sure you also open those ports and make them available always. You'll most likely need to reboot the router to make those changes take effect. Routers can be tricky and are often configured differently but in most cases there should be an option for 'Virtual Server' or something like that. If my memory serves, that's where you should be looking. In the Firewall settings of your router make sure you open the aforementioned ports as well.

Fiddle with that until your helper can connect. I wish I could give you more details but unless you're running a D-Link DGL-4300 I wouldn't be able to help you much more.

Once you get your helper to connect then it's time to move on to the firewall settings. If you're running Windows Firewall you just need to go into the firewall settings there and allow Freelancer in/out access. If you're running Zone Alarm you will need to go to the firewall settings and allow incoming and outgoing UDP ports 2302-2304. You will also need to go to the program control settings and allow freelancer to act as a server.

Good luck.
Let us know how it goes.

install dx

I am on a PC (Microsoft Windows Home)
I have no firewall.
I have wireless (Connecting to another computer) (I have 100.0mbps of speed)
That same player was me.
And i did fiddle but still not working.
I did wait for a few minutes but came up with 'Sorry cannot connect. This is due... blah blah blah'.

And what is DX, I have DirectX9.0 if that's what it is. And i have DXWnd if that's what it is. But still not working.

If you're trying to connect to another computer on your LAN are you using your local IP or your global IP?

Try using your local IP. Run CMD/Ipconfig to find out what it is on the PC running the server. Also, you should lock that IP to that PC in your router.

Post Thu Nov 09, 2006 8:35 pm

I don't know if it is global or not. And i don't know how to lock it.

Please let me know,
Thanks,
Dudeofthed.

I'd say i'm a local ip. Because i have a shared internet and that internet lives across the road from me. That is where i get my connection because the father over there is a computer genius.

Please help.
