The Complete Guide to Setting Up an FL Server
There is a lot of information in the
Freelancer Server Forum
For playing Multiplayer games on your computer... the following note does not apply for online Multiplayer...
For those that are new to Multiplayer games on your own computer at home... you have to start flserver.exe (the Freelancer server program) before you can start a Multiplayer game on your computer if you want to play Multiplayer (LAN) by yourself.
This does not apply for online multiplayer games.
You can find flserver.exe in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE folder.
Note: You need a network card installed in your computer even if you don't have a
network for flserver.exe to work. If you don't have one you can buy one for about $10. Don't worry they are easy to install in an empty slot.
An easy way to start flserver.exe (start flserver.exe before you start Freelancer) is to click on start, then run, then browse to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE click on flserver.exe then click on ok...then fill in the boxes in the server configuration screen that will come up.. or at least the one that says "Enter the name that will identify your server to other players" then click on ok... the flserver screen will come up, give it a few seconds to load. You can minimize the screen if you want but it has to stay running in the background. Now you can start Freelancer... Click on Multiplayer then click on LAN.
If this is your first time running flserver.exe and you are running a firewall and or a antivirus program they will (of coarse) ask if it's ok to allow the program to have access. If it crashes just start flserver up again and you should be ok.
If not you might have to run the network setup wizard.
Click on, start then hover your mouse over All Programs, then Accessories, then Communications, then click on Network Setup Wizard...
